Honoring the memory of Maddie
with a day of tennis.
Maddie, a former Buffalo Tennis Academy Student, Clarence High School Girls Tennis and Case Western Reserve Women’s Tennis standout.
A fierce competitive player who gave it her all every time she stepped on the court. She was focused, set goals and enjoyed the journey. Always supportive of her teammates, she was an inspiration and a wonderful role model to those who trained with her. This event is dedicated in her memory.
The Miller Tennis Center staff, coaches and players cherish the time we spent with Maddie and will continue to share all the outstanding qualities she possessed for future stars to emulate.

Charlie Garfinkel, Buffalo’s all-time racket sports legend passed away at the age of 82 in November of 2021. A past inductee into an amazing 14 Halls of Fame, Charlie excelled in Buffalo’s premier annual clay court event - The City Open Tennis Tournament. He reached the Open singles final 6 times and twice emerged as champion. In doubles he reached the final 11 times, capturing the crown on 4 occasions. Additionally, in his nearly 40 years as the Buffalo News Racquet Sports columnist, Charlie, year after year, extensively covered the tournament.
To honor his accomplishments and contributions to the Buffalo Tennis Community, the tournament, starting this year will be renamed, The Charlie Garfinkel Buffalo City Open.
